Freddie Mercury

A Musician Like No Other

One of the world’s most famous bands wouldn’t have happened if not for this guy. He’s a legend. A genius. A musician like no other. This man is none other than Freddie Mercury.

Freddie Mercury is the mastermind behind the band Queen, and perhaps their biggest hit, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. While he wasn’t born famous, he did love music from an early age. Born on September 5, 1946, he was originally named Farrokh Bulsara. He had one sister and two loving parents, Bomi and Jer Bulsara.

He attended boarding school in Bombay, India and quickly picked up the piano at the age of seven. His father moved the family to Middlesex where he met future bandmates, Roger Taylor and Brian May.

He joined their band, Smiles, which soon turned into Queen and took hold of the world.

His Death

Like many stars, Freddie Mercury was gone too soon. He died on November 24, 1991, from AIDs-related bronchial pneumonia at the age of 45. While he doesn’t have an official resting place, it is believed that he is at the Kensal Green Cemetery in London.

There wasn’t an official investigation into his death, since just 24 hours before dying he announced to the world that he had AIDs. He urged everyone to help join the fight to end it.

The media, of course, was shocked by this and so were his many fans. He’d kept it a secret and the news still shocks people today as the new movie surround him came out only a few weeks ago.

Freddie Mercury was cremated after a small ceremony and his burial site was hidden away. This didn’t stop the world from mourning and celebrating his life. Less than a year after his death was perhaps the largest farewell concert given ever, tributed to Freddie Mercury.

The Mystery

His death did create some mystery. For one, his resting site wasn’t found until 2013, twelve years after his death. A plaque, with his birth name and lifetimes, were found in the cemetery.

The plaque was also signed with an M, that could very well stand for his former girlfriend and lifelong friend, Mary Austin. There could be almost no doubt that this was his resting site.
There are not many crazy theories surrounding his death. Most of the world accepts that he died from HIV/AIDs.

However, there is one more theory, that is trending amongst dead artists. That would be that the CIA had something to do with his death. It is believed, by some that the CIA had originally created and intended to spread the disease to the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
During his lifetime Freddie Mercury traveled to Canada and was apparently aware of the actuary profession. The fact that he died to AIDs was a great reason for people to link the two together.

While the CIA may or may not be involved, Freddie Mercury’s death was very tragic and brought much-needed awareness to HIV/AIDs.

Remembrance

There are not many people who don’t know of Freddie Mercury, or at least, his band. In honor of him and his time spent in Montreux, Switzerland, a bronze statue stands by the water where fans leave flowers daily.

The movie, Bohemian Rhapsody also remembers our star and was released on November 2, 2018.

He started his official career with Queen in June of 1972. He continued that life, touring the world and releasing major hits such as, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are the Champions,” and their first major hit, “Killer Queen”.

Freddie Mercury went by the nickname of Bucky while growing up, because of his four extra teeth in the back of his mouth. This ultimately caused his famous goofy grin. He never got the teeth removed, fearing that it would mess with his vocals and end his career.

While having AIDs, he was also a bisexual. He openly talked about it offstage, but onstage it was different. From 1970-76, Mary Austin was his girlfriend. They ended their relationship but remained friends.

He found a new partner in 1985, Jim Hutton, and was with him until his death. He never had any children though and with much touring and his love for partying, never really kept a home life.

Freddie Mercury only ever received two awards. The first was in 1977, while still alive, receiving the NME Bastard of the Year Award. His other recognitions, which has a much nicer title, was given in 1992. That was the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
Freddie Mercury gave us some of the best and most unique music of all time. And it will be hard to forget him.
